We cordially invite you to GAMPA to the dernissage of the exhibition Cecoslovacchia.
The exhibition presents a unique curatorial project whose aim is to “transfer” the building of the Czech and Slovak Pavilion from the historic Giardini site of the Venice Biennale to the Czech Republic, in order to quite literally bring it closer to the local audience. The Venetian pavilion, whose façade still bears the Italian inscription CECOSLOVACCHIA—denoting a state entity that no longer exists—was built in 1925 to represent the then Czechoslovak Republic at the prestigious international showcase of contemporary art, La Biennale d’Arte di Venezia. The exhibition reflects not only on the history of the pavilion and its present condition, but also on the cultural and political events in both countries, which, despite the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, continue to be connected through the pavilion.
PROGRAM
15:00–17:00 Dernissage creative workshop
Dernissage art workshop – or rather, a game. Come whenever you can, but make sure you come. A good dose of creativity and fun awaits you. At the start, you’ll receive a map, and then, either on your own or together with a parent, you’ll set off in search of creative tasks. Sometimes they’ll get you moving, other times they’ll make you wonder whether it’s still “within the norm” or already “beyond the limit.” The workshop is suitable for both children and adults.
17:00 Guided tour through the exhibition
Curator of the exhibition, Vojtěch Novák, will guide visitors through the display, which consists of a scaled-down replica of the modernist building of the Czech and Slovak Pavilion, originally constructed for the purpose of national representation at the world showcase of contemporary art – the Venice Biennale. Through the artworks presented in the exhibition, he will introduce several significant events and moments from recent years that have profoundly shaped its further direction.
17:30–19:00 DISCUSSION: Architectural Space as an Exhibition Object (in czech onley)
19:00 Concert by 3C 273
3C 273 is the solo musical project of the Slovak composer and visual artist Monika Kováčová. As 3C 273, she primarily focuses on organ playing. Her compositions are harmonic, with minimalist textures created through synthetic and acoustic instruments in repetitive movements and longer durations with layering of rhythmic elements. Sampled sound is captured in loops and fragmented into new forms that combine a minimalist approach with an exploration of the boundaries of sonic extremes.
By participating in the program, you agree to the taking and publication of your photographs for the purposes of documentation, promotional activities, and public presentation in the press, on the GAMPY website, and on GAMPY’s social media channels for the entire duration of its existence.
