CecoslovacchiaLive ➛ PiNKBUS Slovak and No Other (SK)

An explosive mix of urban queer cabaret and Slovak folklore directed by choreographer Martin Talaga. A message about a unified Slovak culture. PiNKBUS sends its heartfelt greetings to the forests and mountains!

We belong to Slovak culture. We ARE Slovak culture. Whether MADAM Minister likes it or not. Let’s change traditions together! It’s time for a “veselica” (celebration), because Slovak culture is purely Slovak and no other. At a time when “traditional values,” folklore, and the countryside are praised on one side, and queer people and urban culture stand on the other, we seek overlap. Understanding. Tension and reconciliation. And what could connect it better than music? From the Tatras to the Danube, from Páslo dievča pávy to Eugen Suchoň and Marika Gombitová.

PiNKBUS is an artistic platform that has been dedicated to queer and drag art and its presentation for five years. Last year, as a spontaneous experiment, PiNKBUS slovenský a žiadny iný was created and instantly became a phenomenon. The strong reaction from both the public and the cultural scene compels us to further develop and deepen this concept. Music and humor are the building blocks of the entire project, as we see them as unifying elements that can bring at least a little understanding to a divided society. Folklore and modern music represent two opposing camps, between which we strive to find dialogue once again.

Concept: Martin Talaga / Performers: Martin Venice Talaga, Jaroslav Viňarský, Ermin Fazlić, Jakub Spevák, Jozefína Dlábiková / Music: Tanita Yankova, Kasia / Production: Adriána Spišáková / Photos: Lukáš Palatinus, Jakub Gulyás

The performance is part of the summer series CecoslovacchiaLive, which at Divadlo 29 & GAMPA focuses on contemporary Slovak artists.
