Live Sound Workshop with Adam Veselý

This course is designed for anyone who would like to gain a practical introduction to live sound engineering. It will be led by Divadlo 29’s resident sound engineer Adam Veselý. Alongside the essential theoretical background, the main focus will be on hands-on experience, with the help of the band the strýc.

Participants will learn the standard workflow of live concert sound reinforcement – from initial communication with a band, through microphone selection (drums, bass guitar, double bass, acoustic and electric guitar, wind instruments, vocals), microphone placement and basic EQ, to working with stage monitors. You will also become familiar with the basics of PA systems, mixing consoles, and other stage equipment. Adam will point out common mistakes and, of course, there will be plenty of room for questions.

Adam Veselý has devoted his entire professional life to sound, working across an exceptionally broad range of genres. He began his career at the Prague jazz club U Staré paní before gradually moving into theatre productions, larger concert stages, and recording studios. Today he works as a sound engineer for the bands Taskent, Bariel AV and Méta Monde, serves as monitor engineer for Monkey Business, and collaborates long-term with the theatre company Farma v jeskyni. For several years, he has also been a familiar presence at concerts in Divadlo 29. Among many notable projects, he provided sound for the Silent Night series organised by the Genot Centre label and for performances by Chrystabell and Dean Hurley, close collaborators of David Lynch, at Prague's DOX Centre for Contemporary Art. Adam records albums (including releases by Jan Michálek, Spinifex, MMMM and Tomáš Hrubiš), works on podcast and video post-production (most recently Devadesátá for the Václav Havel Library), and handles audio production for broadcasts from conferences and trade fairs. In his remaining spare time, he plays keyboards with the band Schmutzig and, through the Happy Fridays initiative, works to revive club culture in Kostelec nad Černými lesy.

the strýc
A blend of seemingly unrelated genres, combining pop mischievousness with punk grit and a distinctly peculiar poetics. Reggae, rap, Sudeten funk, jazz-folk, and plenty of undefinable chords.
