Filip Beneš: Černý měsíc (Black Moon)

A discussion with a striking new voice on the Czech fantasy scene. Filip Beneš will present his ambitious project – the Černý měsíc (Black Moon) trilogy, whose first volume Minulost (The Past), spanning nearly 1,000 pages, returns readers to the roots of epic fantasy. The author published the book in spring last year as a self-release, outside standard book distribution channels. 

The novel returns to the roots of classic epic fantasy. It follows the story of the young prince Ramiel, who, after completing his military academy training, sets out for a ceremonial ball hosted by his uncle, the king of a neighbouring realm. He is accompanied by five friends from different backgrounds, as well as his mysterious wolf companion. Yet a single evening radically changes their fates and the future of two kingdoms once united under the name Lhyonn. Unknowingly, the group becomes entangled in an ancient conflict and finds itself face to face with a carefully guarded secret…

When publishing the book, Filip Beneš chose not to follow the traditional route. In the moderated discussion, he will explain why he opted for self-publishing, what advantages and pitfalls this path brings, what the whole publishing process involves, and why more and more authors are choosing this route today. The conversation will also touch on inspirations, the origins of the story, and the writing process itself.

The evening will also include space for audience questions and a book signing. A must-see for all fans of quality fantasy!
