Divadlo 29 | concert | Jazzconexion

The fierce post-everything trio Pudlax, formed by siblings Klára Pudláková and Jan Pudlák together with drummer Jakub Švejnar, connects modern jazz with free improvisation and moves effortlessly between composition and spontaneity. 

The sibling duo of Jan Pudlák and Klára Pudláková, joined by Jakub Švejnar, brings a distinctive and energetic music rooted in the ideas of pianist Jan Pudlák, further developed through the strong creative input of all three members. The music of Pudlax draws on free improvisation, jazz idioms and compositional techniques of the 20th century. The result of this collective musical dialogue is a body of work full of energy, unique humour, instrumental precision and the courage to take risks.

In 2023, the trio released its debut album11 mg on the progressive Czech label Ma Records. The album features original compositions that impress through both formal sophistication and creative openness – a convincing demonstration of the versatility and innovative strength of this young band. All three members are among the notable faces of the younger generation on the Czech jazz, experimental and contemporary classical scenes, and in recent years they have also been gaining recognition abroad.

All three musicians are members of Uthando. Klára Pudláková also performs with Avokaduo, 2in2out, Maomah and the duo Toša with Michal Wróblewski. Jan Pudlák plays in Empyrean Sextet, Crescent Quartet and Tonya Graves Band, while drummer Jakub Švejnar is a member of Jungle Debris and Dust in the Groove.

Pudlax will spend the whole day at Divadlo 29 as part of a mini-residency aimed at creating a live concert recording.
