Sturle Dagsland (NO) • Fæ Bestia

Norwegian mountains, magical creatures, sounds of the underworld, dreams, Nordic folklore, shamanic rituals and psychedelic inspirations. Norwegian musician Sturle Dagsland is a phenomenon that is hard to describe – at once incredibly diverse, catchy, and totally untamed. Expect a truly wild and adventurous ride! Before Sturle Dagsland, the stage will belong to club discovery Fæ Bestia with her mutant electronics.

Delightful darkness? Elegiac laments? A goblin who can spit terror and dread? Musician Sturle Dagsland is, without exaggeration, an apparition that may have grown from the tradition of dark Norwegian folklore, yet his work otherwise defies any categorization. Dagsland’s eponymous 2021 debut shook the very idea of what can be forged from folk traditions, and also thoroughly scrambled notions of the boundaries of darkness – especially when he set off as support on the European tour of Finnish psychedelic metallers Oranssi Pazuzu.

It is hard to find words for Dagsland’s vocal acrobatics – his range is incredible, as is his ability to venture into corners where we would never expect him. But he has the frenzy of his music firmly under control; its craziness is harnessed. Sturle Dagsland can be endlessly romantic one moment, only to flip that energy in a heartbeat into an explosive ride. His concerts are true adventurous expeditions, not least because of how much Dagsland runs around the stage. Live, Sturle performs alongside his brother, and the union of these two men equals the power of an orchestra. Sturle Dagsland’s new album Dreams and Conjurations comes out just days before his concert in Pardubice.

Fæ Bestia weaves sound from the rubble of silence. She brings hyperpop from the underworld, where dark R’n’B, mutant electronics and pulsing industrial collide. Her gothic melodies intertwine with rap, creating a unique world where Paris Hilton strolls across a battlefield alongside mythical creatures.

Fæ Bestia released her first EP Cosa Diabolica in 2021, followed by the album Alegorie in spring 2023, and her most recent EP Heart Transplant came out last summer. “I don’t really define myself by genre, I enjoy experimenting. I usually have some period when I listen to just three artists on repeat, and of course that influences me. When I was making the album Alegorie, I basically only listened to Smerz, Organ Tapes, and various deconstructed clubs. With Heart Transplant I went back a lot to dubstep, which I loved as a teenager. And now I’m having an extreme Yung Lean revival after ten years,” says the musician.
