Smeykal & Slovák: Kus Proroka / A Piece of the Prophet

A musical-literary event dedicated to the texts of poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran.

Actor Jan Slovák and musician Ondřej Smeykal, a master of the Australian didgeridoo, have created a joint project that blends the recitation of texts by Lebanese poet and philosopher Khalil Gibran with organic music, which breathes, pulses, and fills the space like a living organism.

During the evening, we will listen to the most famous work of Gibran, his book The Prophet, published in 1923, which became one of the best-selling spiritual works of the 20th century. Gibran's poetry connects mysticism, humanism, and profound life wisdom, inspired by Christianity, Islam, and Eastern philosophy. His texts often explore themes of love, freedom, spirituality, and the meaning of life.

Jan Slovák is a writer, screenwriter, singer, and actor. Since the mid-80s, he has been involved with Divadlo Sklep, and is legendary for his portrayal of the main character in the film Kouř. Along with Aleš Najbrt, he forms the performance duo Thomas & Ruhller. Currently, he is focused on the literary project Slaměný pes.

Ondřej Smeykal is a true pioneer of playing the Australian didgeridoo in the Czech Republic. He has collaborated with artists such as Monika Načeva, Petr Nikl, Milan Cais (Tata Bojs), Jaroslav Dušek, Monkey Business, British musician Jaz Coleman, and American guitarist Gary Lucas.
