Raději zešílet v divočině (Better Go Mad in the Wild)

A poetic yet raw account of twin brothers living in isolation, outside of society. Winner of the Grand Prix at this year’s Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Director Miro Remo (Richard Müller: The Unknown, Love Under the Hood) loosely expands on the themes of the book Better to Go Mad in the Wilderness by Aleš Palán and Jan Šibík, which chronicles the lives of reclusive individuals in the Šumava mountains. The film follows František and Ondřej Klišík, twin brothers and eternal children inhabiting a magical world alongside their animals. They share every day, every routine, every thought. Outwardly, they appear as mirror images of each other — but inside, they are two profoundly different souls.

After years of inseparable togetherness, the strain begins to show. Franta dreams of escape, of flying, of a world beyond the walls that confine him. Ondra stays rooted in the familiar. But can you ever truly escape when the whole world wears your face?

This moving and visually captivating documentary touched the hearts of both audiences and the jury at Karlovy Vary, taking home the festival’s top prize.
