Petr Linhart • Tomáš Toman & Ján Kicko (CZ/SK)

Stories of landscapes and places through the eyes of two different generations of songwriters.

Petr Linhart (*1962) is a songwriter, wanderer, and lover of landscapes—especially those along the borderlands. He describes his genre as landscape folk – stories of places and places of stories. Linhart’s lyrics are full of imagery, telling about landscapes that carry the memory of the past as well as traces of the present. Musically, he draws on the folk tradition but also opens up to elements of rock and world music. So far, he has recorded six albums, three of which were nominated for the Czech music award Anděl in its genre category. In 1987, he co-founded the band Majerovy brzdové tabulky, with which he still performs today. He collaborated with the Slovak duo Hmlisto on the album Československá, which received the Radio_Head Award. In addition, as a lyricist he has worked or continues to work with Jan Spálený, František Segrado, František Stralczynský, and other musicians.

Tomáš Toman (*1990) is an alternative folk songwriter from the Krkonoše Mountains. In his songs, he roams through the landscapes of his heart, exploring both the present and past faces of the Krkonoše, telling stories from the hidden corners of the mountains, and seeking to lift his gaze toward places beyond sight and to things that often remain invisible to the eyes. So far, he has released two albums. On guitar, he will be accompanied by Ján Kicko from the band Hmlisto.
