Offcity architekti: Město a voda (City and Water) / Martin Čapský, František R. Václavík (Voda v pohybu / Water in Motion)
This year, the Offcity architekti lecture and discussion series focuses on water as an element of public space. We are interested in the significance of the banks of the Labe and Chrudimka rivers, as well as water as a city-shaping phenomenon that operates beyond riverbeds.
The series brings together experts from various fields—figures who approach and explore the topic of water in the city across different contexts and from both professional and personal perspectives. Our aim is to communicate the issue of water in urban environments to the public in an open, accessible, and meaningful way, and to support a deeper understanding of it.
The second guests in the series are Martin Čapský and František R. Václavík, who will present their work as part of a research team at the University of Pardubice. The team has long been engaged with water management and the role of water in shaping the cultural landscape from the late Middle Ages to the present. The project Voda v pohybu (Water in Motion) connects specialists from the humanities, technical disciplines, and environmental engineering, focusing on the relationships between landscape transformation, economic activity, and social change. The research also examines how local residents perceive the impacts of climate change and seeks ways to integrate proposed measures into long-term strategies for the Pardubice Region. The evening will take the form of a lecture followed by a moderated discussion.
We look forward to meeting you and to an open discussion together. The discussion will be held in Czech; questions in English are welcome.
