Kvadrata supro (CZ/IT/HU) • Toša

Kvadrata supro is an international quartet whose music unfolds in the polarity between trance-like, eruptive free jazz with folkloric atavisms and free improvisation infused with elements of minimalism. Toša, the duo of bassist Klára Pudláková and saxophonist Michal Wróblewski, experiments with references to various musical traditions, transforming them into soundscapes that are at times evocatively picturesque, at other times swept away like landscapes tossed by gusts of wind.

Within their new joint project Toša, Michal Wróblewski and Klára Pudláková present original compositions combined with unrestrained and unpredictable improvisation. Their music ranges from moving and straightforwardly melodic songs through vivid soundscapes to wild rhythmic outbursts. Together they explore the sonic possibilities of saxophone and double bass, while experimenting with the intersections of diverse musical traditions.

Klára Pudláková is an established Czech bassist and composer, leading or co-leading ensembles such as Maomah, Pudlax, Avokaduo, Uthando, and a duo with Danish vibraphonist Viktoria Sondergaard. She also composes for all these ensembles. In addition, she collaborates with various artists across a broad stylistic spectrum—from jazz and contemporary music to interdisciplinary dance and theatre performances.

Michal Wróblewski is a Czech composer and saxophonist with Polish roots. He co-leads the ensembles E Converso, JWQ, and Karm, writes chamber music for a variety of performers and ensembles, and collaborates with improvisers from all over the world.

Kvadrata supro
was formed in 2021 as an improvising trio (Michal Hrubý, Elia Moretti, Zdeněk Závodný) built on doubled reed instruments—mainly saxophones and clarinets—together with a rhythm section of drums and vibraphone. The fabric of their music unfolds in a polarity between trance-like, eruptive free jazz with folkloric atavisms and free improvisation that incorporates elements of minimalism and ambient. In 2025, the group invited Hungarian double bassist Ernö Hock to join them.

Ernö Hock is one of the most versatile Hungarian bass players of the past two decades, moving fluidly between jazz, folk, rock, and free improvisation. He is a member of numerous Budapest-based bands, such as the genre-defying Zuboly, funk-rock band The Qualitons, the neo-psychedelic Decolonize Your Mind Society, and the power-jazz-core trio Jü. For many years he was part of the legendary Dresch Quartet and he regularly collaborates with István Grencs, Béla Ágoston, and Szilárd Mezei. Internationally, he has performed with musicians such as Ab Baars, Kjetil Møster, Axel Dörner, Charles Gayle, Chris Potter, Sainkho Namtchylak, and Rudi Mahall.

Elia Moretti is a performer, composer, percussionist, and researcher focusing on cultural anthropology through the ecological perception of sound. His interests lie in how sound can transform the experience of performance and in the ways artistic practices interact with the contexts from which they emerge or to which they respond. He investigates sonic phenomena that underpin performative and theatrical practice. Moretti plays in various ensembles (including the Prague Improvisation Orchestra), but his main focus is radical and experimental chamber music. He frequently collaborates with dancers, theatre companies, and visual artists.

Hostoval v Orchestru Berg. Spolupracoval například s Garym Lucasem, Klausem Kugelem, Hanou Blažíkovou, Mikolášem Chadimou, Vratislavem Brabencem nebo Garthem Knoxem.
