The Roots of Disagreement in Contemporary Society
In recent years, there has been frequent discussion about the deepening division of opinions in society, not only in the Czech context. This is not surprising—recent events have brought several major crises that have been and continue to be difficult to handle, whether it's the migration crisis, the COVID-19 pandemic, or the war in Ukraine. The lecture will attempt to explain why these situations lead to strong divisions of opinions within society, where the opposing sides of the dispute cannot agree on almost anything, even though they try to justify their claims with arguments.
We will also focus on why, during such crises, it is easier than ever to manipulate public opinion.
The topic will be discussed by Mgr. Petra Chudárková, Ph.D., who works at the Department of Philosophy and Social Sciences at the University of Hradec Králové.
Admission: Free
The event is organized by students of the University of Pardubice.
