Fanfán Tulipán

Playfulness, originality, groove, and unusual instruments – these are the hallmarks of the band Fanfán Tulipán.

Fanfán’s musical aesthetic is characterized by a groovy bass line in symbiosis with melodic instruments or vocals, complex rhythms infused with influences of fusion and world music, and original, evocative arrangements supported by instruments rarely expected in jazz (such as the Estonian kannel, a music box from a carillon museum, electrician’s flexible conduits, or backpack zippers). In Eliška Vidomus’ compositions, jazz meets funk, d’n’b, and chanson. Fanfán’s genre “promiscuity” knows no boundaries. Along with Eliška Vidomus, the band consists of saxophonist Martin Forst, pianist Petr Svoboda, bassist Martin Gerla, and drummer Šimon Hajdovský.

At Fanfán’s concerts, you can dance with men offline, wander through chambers of echoes, look into owl’s eyes, and experience the genius loci of the post-industrial landscapes of the Elbe lowlands.

Music journalist Anna Marie Hradecká wrote about the band: “Live, the band is outstanding, thanks in part to its communication with the audience bursting with energy and humor, a perfectly crafted setlist and dramaturgy – and above all thanks to the music itself, which, with flawless instrumental synergy, can lift the audience out of their seats one moment and then lead them into melancholic corners, from which another energetic wave soon rises.”
