České zbraně pro Ukrajinu (Czech Weapons for Ukraine)
A discussion hosted by the weekly magazine Respekt about the Czech ammunition initiative.
How did the Czech Republic manage to leave its mark on European history? How did the idea for the so-called ammunition initiative even emerge? And what did Ukraine look like during the course of the full-scale war? You will be able to discuss all this – including the current situation – with the authors of the book České zbraně pro Ukrajinu (Czech Weapons for Ukraine), Respekt reporters Ondřej Kundra and Tomáš Brolík.
It is not often that a relatively small country significantly influences world affairs. One such moment was the ammunition initiative, in which the Czech Republic, thanks to the extraordinary efforts of specific individuals, played an important role in supplying arms to Ukraine after it was attacked by Russia. The book is complemented by testimony from both authors, who witnessed the war firsthand during their many reporting trips to the invaded country.
Ondřej Kundra is deputy editor-in-chief of Respekt. In his writing he focuses on the influence of foreign powers – especially Russia and China – in Europe and the Czech Republic, on Russia’s war in Ukraine, and on Czech politics. He has received several journalism awards for his investigative work and reporting, including the Ferdinand Peroutka Award.
Tomáš Brolík has spent his entire journalistic career at Respekt. He has been reporting on the war in Ukraine since 2014 and also covers Central Europe. He has received several journalism awards for his work. In addition to international reporting, he also writes stories about nature and everything connected to it, as well as portraits of people facing extraordinary life circumstances.
