Barbora Stránská: Mono No Aware
Opening of an exhibition by the Pardubice-based artist, who uses photography as a visual language of introspection—a way of capturing the subtle layers of meaning hidden in everyday life.
The series Mono No Aware was created as an emotional diary of the past two years of motherhood—a period of intense searching for balance, calm, and reconnection with oneself. Motherhood is presented here as both challenge and inner conflict, but also as an impulse to retreat into a space where the artist can once again hear her own voice. Photography serves as a therapeutic tool and means of self-reflection through which thoughts and moods can be grasped and processed. Formally, the series draws on abstraction, shadows, textures, and blurring—dissolving the boundaries between reality and dream, and evoking a perception of ephemerality. Instead of a linear narrative, a mosaic of moments emerges: fragments of inner landscapes of feelings, anxieties, and small joys.
Barbora Stránská (*1992) studied social anthropology at the University of Pardubice and currently works as a freelance photographer. In October, she begins a year-long photographic mentorship program at Sputnik Photos in Warsaw.
Exhibition runs until: November 6, 2025
