András Cséfalvay: Mars: Gravity and Grace (SK)

Slovak visual artist, digital storyteller, musician, and mythopoet András Cséfalvay will perform at GAMPA – City Gallery Pardubice as part of the closing event of the Biennale Matter of Art 2026. His programme, Mars: Gravity and Grace, moves between a concert and a performative musical essay. More information about the full programme can be found at matterof.art.

In his work, András Cséfalvay has long explored how fiction can expand the ways in which we understand the world. His minimalist musical performances combine a self-made guitar with vocals in the tradition of bardic storytelling. Through his songs, he tells stories that reach beyond the boundaries of human knowledge – from encounters between cosmic civilisations and the testimonies of extinct species to the perspectives of subatomic particles and artificial intelligence. The result is a series of atmospheric musical narratives that raise questions about the nature of knowledge, the relationship between culture and technology, and the political and ethical dimensions of listening to non-dominant voices when interpreting the world.

András Cséfalvay works primarily with audiovisual media and is known for short narrative videos set in digital realities. A prominent theme in his work is the representation of groups whose voices go unheard in contemporary society – something he believes art has a responsibility to address. His works therefore give a voice to both human and non-human subjects. He is interested in the relationship between culture and technology, as well as the political and ethical dimensions of listening to non-dominant voices in interpretations of the world. Cséfalvay’s work also reflects his interest in the history of science and his reflections on the nature of knowledge and the function of language. In 2009, he won the Oskár Čepan Award for Slovak visual artists under the age of 35.

The event takes place at GAMPA – City Gallery Pardubice.
