Jungle Debris In Residence
An artistic residency of the band Jungle Debris took place at Divadlo 29 from February 23 to 28, during which new recordings were made.
A photo report by Vladimír Sabo from the recording session is available here.
The music of the young group (Jungle Debris members are students of Prague’s HAMU and Brno’s JAMU) spans playful songs, droning minimalism, dissonant lyricism, dense free improvisation, and intense, urgent expression. Original compositions are interwoven with concepts of free improvisation. Jungle Debris is characterized by constructing and subsequently deconstructing form and structure, as well as a desire to push beyond the boundaries set by genre and instrumentation.
Martin Debřička – tenor and soprano saxophone
Luan Gonçalves – double bass
Jakub Švejnar – drums, percussion
Since 2021, artistic residencies for musicians and music groups have been part of the Jazzconnexion project at Divadlo 29. The aim is to respond to the near-total lack of this kind of support in the Czech music scene. On another level, the residencies are a response to the current pandemic situation, which has deprived musicians of opportunities to perform live and often even to rehearse and prepare new projects together. In 2021, musicians for the residencies at Divadlo 29 were selected by curatorial invitation.
