Twenty women directors and the body of performer Miřenka Čechová. Twenty different perspectives on a single theme.

TWENTYone explores the identity of a woman, artist, and mother who refuses to be confined within a “doll’s house”. It presents a twenty-first-century Nora, seen in twenty different ways. Directors from Prague, Nairobi, and Ukraine bring their own realities and personal experiences to the character. They explore how the enduring themes of Ibsen’s drama resonate within their cultural environments and artistic practices.

TWENTYone is a performative anthology of women’s voices. Voices that have long challenged the public sphere bring new perspectives and bold ideas to the subject of womanhood today. The starting point is the restrictions women often encounter in their creative work – a lack of time and space, as well as economic limitations. Each artist is given two days of rehearsals to create a two-minute performative fragment with Miřenka Čechová. The performer’s body thus becomes a living document, a catalogue of twenty different directorial approaches – in the spirit of Marina Abramović’s legendary performance Rhythm 0.
