OFFCITY ARCHITEKTI: Město a voda (Town and Water) / Bibiana Janebová a Jan Dvořák (Voda v Brně)

The 2026 edition of the Offcity Architekti lecture and debate series will focus on water as an element of public space. We will explore the importance of the banks of the Labe (Elbe) and Chrudimka rivers, as well as water as an urban-forming phenomenon that is also addressed beyond riverbeds. Throughout the year, experts in architecture, ecology and history, activists working with participatory processes, and water management professionals will present the role of water in the development of towns, in nature protection, and in its current use to improve the quality of urban life for both human and non-human inhabitants. The lectures aim to connect the topic of water in the town from different perspectives and to approach the issue in an interdisciplinary way.

This year’s programme invites experts from various fields – individuals with different backgrounds and experience, who approach and work with the topic of water in the town in different contexts and relationships, from diverse professional and personal positions. Our goal is to present the issue of water in the town to the public openly, clearly and meaningfully, and to contribute to a deeper understanding of it.

The first guests to visit Pardubice will be representatives of the Kancelář architektury města Brno (Brno City Architecture Office), Bibiana Janebová and Jan Dvořák, who will present the project Voda v Brně (Water in Brno). This is an extensive flood protection project of the town of Brno based on nature-based solutions. Last year, the first phase of the project was opened to the public. Come and hear how the project has developed over the years, what has worked and what has not, and what the next plans are. The evening will be structured as a lecture followed by a moderated discussion.
