Three distinctive voices of contemporary Czech poetry on one stage! An evening dedicated to the literature of the millennial generation. Featuring readings by Alžběta Stančáková, Magdalena Šipka, and Jan Škrob.
All three began publishing after 2010 and write (not only) poetry that reflects the present: social inequalities, marginalization, identity politics, feminism, queer themes, and everyday life under late capitalism. Their work emphasizes social and political consciousness. Instead of “classical” lyricism, their poetry draws on fragments, plain speech, free verse, collage, and at times elements of slam poetry or journalistic tone.
Alžběta Stančáková debuted with Co s tím (What To Do With It, Jiří Orten Award, 2015). In 2021 she was nominated for the Magnesia Litera for her collection Чачак/Čačak. At Klub 29 she will also present her latest book Tvoje tvář s hebkým odrazem (Your Face with a Soft Reflection). Her poetry is raw, corporeal, and intimate, with the courage to address pain, vulnerability, and female experience.
Magdalena Šipka is a poet and theologian, author of the collection Město hráze. Her verses connect everyday life with civic engagement, feminism, and a vision of a solidaristic society. She contributes to Deník Referendum and A2larm, among others.
Jan Škrob is one of the most distinctive queer voices in Czech poetry. He has published the collections Reál (nominated for the Jiří Orten Award, 2019), Pod dlažbou, and Země slunce. On Radio Wave, he co-hosts the program on religion Hergot!; he is also an active musician and editor-in-chief of the magazine Protestant.
