Jindřich Hofman: Without Clear Instruction

Opening of an exhibition by young visual artist Jindřich Hofman, a student at FaVU VUT.

Hofman’s earlier work drew on the aesthetics of video games and focused on the edges of game maps – spaces beyond the main action, where the game world falls apart and loses its function. These dystopian landscapes operated as transitional zones of emptiness and disrupted orientation, revealing tensions between control and its failure. In his current work, this interest shifts from constructed environments toward situations of everyday experience. Jindřich Hofman creates images as open structures in which different possibilities of action unfold in parallel. Rather than following specific narratives, he explores relationships between figures, environment and viewer. Fantastical figures do not appear here as identities, but as shifting positions within a situation. They make it possible to examine different ways of relating to the world – between participation, observation and departure – without the need for fixed interpretation. The image thus becomes a field in which meaning is formed through tension and relationships, without closing into a single answer.

The exhibition presents both older and current works by Jindřich Hofman.

Jindřich Hofman (2002) is in his third year at the FaVU VUT in Brno, studying in the Painting 3 studio led by Patricie Fexová and Veronika Vlková. He has completed internships at Academy of Fine Arts in Prague and in Gdańsk, Poland.

The exhibition runs until 5 August 2026.
