Ondrej Zajac: I Will Be Forgotten LP
Ondrej Zajac is a well-known name on the Central European contemporary music and guitar improvisation scene. Besides his solo work, he is recognized for numerous collaborations with other musicians (Banausoi, Data Koroptev) and artists from visual arts, film, and other media, as well as for performing at virtually all important festivals, clubs, and events (not only) in the Central European region.
I Will Be Forgotten is Zajac’s second full-length album, following the acclaimed Monolith (2016) and two EPs, ICU (2017) and Sketches (2016). Over the years, his style has evolved significantly and likely will never cease. He does not seek final satisfaction or a fixed sound, which is a major motif of his work. Zajac constantly changes his sound and approach; he is not content to simply impress or exaggerate. It is precisely in the honesty, fragility, and integrity of his work that we hear Zajac at his strongest. His music is almost pure substance, as direct as a line, and so immediate that it leads the listener to awe.
The album I Will Be Forgotten was recorded live at Divadlo 29 in Pardubice during long hours of improvisation and exploration, later mixed and co-produced by Zajac’s longtime collaborator Václav Šafek. The album cover photo was taken by his personal photographer and another significant figure, Barbora Girmanová.
