JWQ In Residence
From April 15th to 17th, an artistic residency of the band JWQ (Janoušek-Wróblewski Quartet) took place at Divadlo 29. During the residency, the band recorded material for their new album, which will be released this fall on the Ma Records label.

This quartet is composed of leading players of the young jazz generation, skillfully navigating the waters of contemporary acoustic jazz with influences from New York’s downtown scene, hard bop, surf rock, and free jazz — sprinkled with witty references to Czech brass band music and New Orleans jazz tradition.

Since 2021, Divadlo 29 has been hosting the Jazzconnexion project — an artistic residency program for musicians and bands. This initiative responds to the near absence of such support in the Czech Republic’s music scene. Additionally, the residencies provide an answer to the challenges posed by the pandemic, which deprived musicians of live performances and often of opportunities for joint rehearsals and developing new projects. The selection of musicians for the 2021 residencies at Divadlo 29 is curated.
