Další zázrak v Pardubicích
Interview with Zdeněk Závodný for Divadelní noviny / Nová síť, not only about D29.
Divadlo 29 recently celebrated sixteen years of its existence. It was originally established by the Cultural Center Pardubice, a contributory organization of the city of Pardubice, which was dissolved at the end of last year. After prolonged management problems with the Cultural Center, the city decided to adopt a different model and, as of January 1, 2018, established a contributory organization called the Center for Open Culture. This organization consists of the multi-genre cultural and production center Divadlo 29 and the Gallery of the City of Pardubice, an exhibition space in the style of a Kunsthalle. Both institutions position themselves as venues for non-mainstream creation across genres of contemporary art.
The core activities of Divadlo 29 have always been linked with nonprofit entities active in the Pardubice region – Offcity and Terra Madoda. What the transformation brought with it and the advantages and disadvantages of existing at the crossroads of both municipally established and independent culture were revealed by the founder of Divadlo 29 and current director of the Center for Open Culture, Zdeněk Závodný.
